Isaac Newton
(1642-1727) Isaac Newton was an outstanding English scientist, mathematician and physicist who lived in the 17th and early 18th centuries. He is best known for formulating the laws of motion and the law of universal gravitation, which revolutionized our understanding of the universe. In addition to his contributions to physics, Newton also made important advances in mathematics, optics and astronomy. His most famous work, “Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica”, published in 1687, is considered one of the most influential in the history of science.
