(1847-1931) Thomas Alva Edison was a prolific inventor and successful entrepreneur. During his lifetime, he patented more than a thousand inventions, including the incandescent light bulb, the phonograph and the electric power distribution system. Edison was not only a creative genius, but also a visionary business leader. He founded the Edison Electric Light Company in 1878, which later became General Electric, one of the largest companies in the world.
