(1398-1468) Was a German inventor known primarily for revolutionizing printing with his invention of the movable type printing press in Europe, one of the most important technological innovations in history. Before Gutenberg, books were copied by hand, which limited their availability and made knowledge accessible only to a privileged elite. With his printing technique, he managed to produce books much more quickly and economically, starting with the famous Gutenberg Bible, around 1455, considered the first work printed in large quantities. His invention drove the Renaissance, the Protestant Reformation and an unprecedented expansion of knowledge, which transformed the education, religion and society of his time.
