Miguel Ángel Asturias

(1899-1974) Miguel Ángel Asturias was a Guatemalan writer, recognized as one of the greatest Latin American writers of the 20th century. Asturias was not only a prolific author of novels, short stories and poetry, but also a prominent diplomat and political activist committed to human rights. His work reflects social injustices, oppression and the struggle for freedom in Guatemala and Latin America. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1967 for his literary work, especially for his novel “El Señor Presidente”.
